Summer Cup

Summer Charity Finals night to be held at the Harlescott Social club on Monday 13th August 2018

Lingen Davies Cancer Fund is Committed to Supporting Cancer Services for the People of Shropshire, Telford and Mid Wales.

Started in 1979 by Bernard Lingen, then Mayor of Shrewsbury, and local accountant Frank Davies, the charity has contributed around £18million in today’s prices to improve cancer services in the local area.

We estimate that around 75,000 people have had their cancer treatment and care improved through the impact of the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

We’ve made a lot of changes in the charity recently, and worked on some really exciting projects

In 1979, the Mayor of Shrewsbury Bernard Lingen, with the help of local accountant Frank Davies, launched the Cobalt Unit Trust Fund to raise funds to build and equip a new Radiotherapy Department at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. For the first time, people with cancer in Shropshire and Mid Wales could receive their treatment and care locally.

Since then, the charity has maintained a commitment to supporting excellent local services and ensuring that people in our community are given the best possible support when facing cancer. We have continuously raised funds for a wide range of projects, working closely with health professionals to ensure our money is spent wisely, and for the greatest benefit of local people.

In 1994, the Charity changed its name to the Lingen Davies Cancer Relief Fund in recognition of the hard work and dedication of Bernard Lingen and Frank Davies. On 1st April 2013, we changed our name again to Lingen Davies Cancer Fund to emphasise the work we still need to do to help improve facilities for cancer patients across Shropshire and Mid Wales.

In 2015, the charity became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and this is the form in which we exist today. As we head towards our 40th anniversary in 2019, we are excited about our potential for the future, and will be investing in some amazing new projects to ensure we keep supporting our local community through their experience with cancer and beyond.
